I occasionally receive “hate mail.” Can you believe it, I never have anything controversial to say.

This letter from "Alex in Great Britain" intrigued me because it was so filled with hatred, venom and misinformation about Christianity.  Alex was especially angry because we posted “homosexual content” under the “sexual/nudity” section of one of our game reviews.  We didn't say it was right or wrong.  We simply noted that the game contained homosexual content. Because of this "hateful" comment, Alex felt a need to call us names and much more.  He went on and on for pages.  You may pick up some of what he had to say from my response.  Hope you find it informative.

Hey Alex,

I love how you tolerate my beliefs.  Christians are asked to tolerate everything and everyone, but when you disagree with us we are called "hateful and bigoted."  Can't we agree to disagree?

You said if I really investigated Darwinism I wouldn't believe in an unseen God.  Would you mind answering some questions for me?

Have you really investigated Darwinism and evolution?  If so, can you tell me how life started? Who or what pulled the trigger on the "big bang?" How do you start life from non-life?  Can you explain DNA with Darwinism?

I was especially intrigued by your statement “…there is (in all probability) no god.”  Really? Since you believe God to be a probability, what are the odds He is or isn't God?  In the crapshoot of life, what if you are wrong?  Oops!  You don't get a do over!

And when you say “Christians have warped values?”  Really? Which ones?  You weren't specific.

You seemed to imply that our teaching that marriage should only be between a man and a woman and to be faithful to your spouse was warped.  In this age of AIDS, STDs, and unwanted pregnancies the only sure way to protect yourself is to live a Christian lifestyle. Is that so warped?

How about helping those in need?  If Christians are so "stupid and hateful" helping those in need couldn't be a Christian value, could it?

Since you are the one who likes research, why not research why most hospitals, orphanages, and charities have Christian names.  You will find most were started as an "arm" of a local church or religious organization.  Could it be these "stupid Christians" are the most generous people in the history of the world and not "hateful" as you claim? In fact Christians have started more hospitals, orphanages, and charity organizations than all other organizations combined!

That makes us hateful?

Christians don't hate you, homosexuals, or anyone.  Nor did our game review you referred to imply homosexuals are evil or going to hell as you claim.  We believe the homosexual lifestyle is wrong. You can believe someone is practicing wrong behavior without hating them, can't you? You believe I'm wrong and you don't hate me do you?  That would be intolerant.  And you tolerate everyone!  Right?

Your letter reminds me of the homosexual organization started in California after losing the election to define marriage as between one man and one woman. This group named their organization, "The Organization Against Hate."  It's ironic since they spray hateful graffiti on churches and disrupt church services.  Picket churches and march in demonstrations shouting hateful epithets at Christians.  And this is the organization against hate.

I guess if you can't use logic, use intimidation!

Not once has a Christian publicly said ONE hateful thing toward homosexuals. I don't know any Christian who hates homosexuals or anyone. Christianity teaches that God loves everyone in the world. (John 3:16) The Bible also teaches that any sexual activity outside of marriage is wrong. It doesn't mean Christians HATE people who don’t live by biblical values. It simply means we believe that behavior is wrong.

The real question is why does the Bible teach homosexuality is wrong? I believe it is because homosexuality is destructive to mankind and God LOVES mankind and wants us to "be fruitful and multiply."

How do we know homosexuality is destructive?  Consider this illustration:

If everyone in the world was a homosexual, how long would this generation last? As you say, “add up the math.”  We would only exist until the last person died. Think about that! That means a specific lifestyle is destructive to the survival of mankind. If you want to destroy mankind, make everyone live a homosexual lifestyle!  That is the only sure way to destroy mankind for good.

We've identified smoking, overindulgence of food, drugs and alcohol as destructive lifestyles. We want people to survive, so we educate the public to change their destructive lifestyle. The question is, shouldn't we encourage the homosexual community to change their destructive lifestyle as well?

Closing our eyes to the situation doesn't make it normal.

The desire to survive is the most basic instinct in humanity.  We can see this struggle in how newborn babies inherently struggle to survive.  Survival of the species is basic to mankind.  But a lifestyle that is destructive to the survival of mankind is "normal?"  Boy, THAT sounds warped! You're not advocating the destruction of mankind are you?

As you requested, I've have done the research. I encourage you to do the same. Indiscriminate sexual behavior that you advocate leads to STDs, AIDS, unwanted pregnancies, poverty and broken families. Why do you advocate such destructive behaviors?

Because the Bible teaches homosexuality and indiscriminate sex is wrong doesn’t make Christianity hateful and warped. Actually, it shows how much God loves us.  He doesn’t want us to destroy ourselves.

  1. Hello,

"Have you really investigated Darwinism and evolution?"

The is no such thing as "Darwinism". It is not an ideology like "Communism" or "Capitalism". It is a scientific theory and you do not speak of "Newtonism" or "Maxwellism" when referring to gravitation or electromagnetic theories. Stop it about Darwin too. Even if it was proven to be wrong, the theory of Darwin would not become an "ism", just like the works of Einstein did not change the theory of Newton into "Newtonism", so please stop now.

"If so, can you tell me how life started?"

The theory of evolution never mentions the origin of life or of the universe, and was not meant to. It is a theory about how living things change (evolve !). It is not called "the theory of the origins". Newton did not theorize about the origin of the universe either. Please stop using this argument.

"Can you explain DNA with Darwinism?"

This is the super subtle introduction of the god of the gaps. Anything that is not naturally explained (yet) proves God exists. There was a time when Jupiter created thunder and lightning. Please stop using that argument.

"Since you believe God to be a probability, what are the odds He is or isn't God?"

Who ? Please stop using circular reasoning.

"In the crapshoot of life, what if you are wrong? Oops! You don't get a do over!"

The silly Pascal wager has been long debunked. Please stop using it.

"In this age of AIDS, STDs, and unwanted pregnancies the only sure way to protect yourself is to live a Christian lifestyle. Is that so warped?"

The Jewsish or Muslim lifestyles are at least as safe. And hundreds of years ago, people were much more religious, and were suffering and dying from diseases (ST or not) in much greater numbers and at a much younger age. Unwanted pregnancies (from which women were more liley to die) where in greater numbers too. So your correlation might be going against your agenda. Please stop mixing scare tactics and false morals with medecine and social issues to promote your fairy tale.

"If Christians are so "stupid and hateful" helping those in need couldn't be a Christian value, could it?"

Why not ? Hitler loved animals, his wife and blond children, yet he was stupid and hateful. It all depends on the definiton of "those in need".
And "helping others" is a not a strictly Christian value. Some animals have altruistic behaviors too. Please stop hijacking social and moral values as exclusive properties of religions.

"In fact Christians have started more hospitals, orphanages, and charity organizations than all other organizations combined! "

But why is there such a need for hospitals, orphanages, and charity organizations when God is such a benevolent, omnipresent and omnipotent supervisor ?
When you do a body count from the old testament, God killed more people than Stalin and and Hitler combined. Are Christians trying to redeem for God ?

"Not once has a Christian publicly said ONE hateful thing toward homosexuals."

    godhatesfags.com
And please re-read the brilliant lectures on the subject of Pat Robertson, Jerry Fallwell and various popes.
Is there a limit to your self-deception ? Or is it just warped marketing for retards ?

"God LOVES mankind and wants us to "be fruitful and multiply.""

Yeah, God DOES love mankind so much we need Christians to build orphanages and hospitals.
Isn't over 6 billions people not enough ? When we have exhausted all the air, food, water... and oil, do we mindlessly, religiously continue to be frutiful and multiply ?

"If everyone in the world was a homosexual, how long would this generation last?"

You seem to have an endless supply of silly arguments of olympic level. If everyone in the world was a plumber, nobody would grow food and we would all die within a week.
Also, your use of the term "homosexual" is vague. "Homosexual" does not mean exclusively homosexual, it does not mean sterile, it does not mean permanently homosexual.
Why and how would everyone in the world become a homosexual ?
Please stop using such low level "thinking".

"We've identified smoking, overindulgence of food, drugs and alcohol as destructive lifestyles."

It is all a matter of quantities and control. Working in an office 50 hours a week in front of a computer, 40 years in my life also looks destructive top the body and the mind. Are you campagning against long work hours ?

"Survival of the species is basic to mankind."

How would you know ? Remember that everything Darwin said is wrong !

"Because the Bible teaches homosexuality and indiscriminate sex is wrong doesn’t make Christianity hateful and warped. "

Not it does not. It just makes Christianity dumb and blind to the real world.

"Actually, it shows how much God loves us. He doesn’t want us to destroy ourselves."

Tell that to the Israelis and Palestinians.

Anyway atheism is just monotheism minus one god, so we hold almost similar views, compared to polytheists. Rejoice.
But I'm glad to understand that Jesus rode dinosaurs.

Stop being terrified by the real world and join the Church of Zer.

  2. Bravo Zer, you've thankfully saved me from spending a long time correcting this misguided dudes views.

One thing though; "...and suggestions to teach your kids how to think will be given."

Teach your kids how to think?!? That's a pretty fucked up philosophy. Let kids think for themselves.

  3. -> Zer:

Yep. I KNEW someone would mention Fred Phelps and his "Westboro Baptist / God Hates Fags" band of heretics sooner or later.

I've dealt with that so-called "church." I've seen their flawed reasoning and logic and their terrible theology. I've challenged many of their doctrinal tenets. Their Scriptural "interpretation" contradicts Scripture *way* too often to be reliable.

As far as your response to the question, "Can you explain DNA with Darwinism*," it seems to me that you are yourself begging a question.

You're assuming that Al believes that the only other possibility is what you call "the god of the gaps." It seems to me -- though I apologize if I'm wrong -- that Al wasn't trying to impose his "god of the gaps" but rather, he was simply critiquing and analyzing Darwin's ideas.

    * What is an "-ism," and why, if I may, do you have such a problem with Al's use of that phrase?

' "Since you believe God to be a probability, what are the odds He is or isn't God?"

Who ? Please stop using circular reasoning. '

Please explain to me how this is circular reasoning, if you would?

"God killed more people than Stalin and Hitler combined"

Stalin and Hitler were murderers. God has a right to take back what He created. What's wrong with God killing people?

By the way, the concept that people get sick, grow old, and die, does not mean that God does not "love" us. From where does your reasoning on this issue originate?

I don't really see why you were indirectly comparing homosexuals to plumbers. I'm not trying to impose some sort of "God hates fags" agenda on you; I just don't understand your statement. Yes, not everyone can be a plumber, lest the food supply diminish, but what does that logic have to do with sexuality?

How is Christianity "dumb and blind to the 'real world' " ?

What about the Israelis and Palestinians? They don't worship the same "god (what -- would you say -- is a "god" ?)," so you can't lump both groups into one entity based on that.

  4. -> scottmaciver:

As far as "teaching your kids how to think" goes, note that this says "how to think" (that is, how to be a discerning, thoughtful critical thinker), not "what to think" (the difference between the two is found in one word: "why").

As far as thinking for oneself goes, it's wonderful when one understands his or her own beliefs and the rationales behind those beliefs -- but bear in mind that just because something "seems" logical, doesn't always mean that that logic holds up. This goes for skeptics as well as Christians or anyone else.

In other words, being "discerning" isn't an innate quality -- we aren't born knowing how to discern right from wrong, the logical from the illogical, the wise from the foolish; and we don't always "naturally" learn these things as we mature (physically) through adolescence.

We as humans need wise and proper teaching and council -- and that fact doesn't change as we grow older, just because we grow older.
